One Christmas, I unwrapped a dress that could only be described as an act of aesthetic violence. It was of no definable color or shape, and managed to be both too big and too small. Also, there were ruffles.
“Oh no,” my mother said when I tried it on. My father was laughing too hard to speak.
I didn’t blame the gifter. Gift giving is hard, and everyone strikes out sometimes. On the other hand, it is possible to strike gold – like when my friend got me a mug with a picture of my favorite influencer pig on it.
