Meaghan Oppenheimer, the showunner of the buzzy TV series Tell Me Lies, has revealed that the show will officially come to an end after its season three finale.
“After three amazing seasons of Tell Me Lies, tonight’s episode will be the series finale,” Oppenheimer wrote on Instagram earlier today.
“This was always the ending my writing team and I had in mind, and we are insanely proud of it.”

Explaining the decision, Oppenheimer said the show has simply “reached its natural conclusion”, despite the team’s efforts to “explore whether there was another organic way to continue the story” for a fourth instalment.
“My main goal has always been to protect the quality of the show and give you the best experience I can give you… I am very grateful that we are able to tell a complete story with an intentional ending — a privilege very few shows get,” Oppenheimer added.
It means that the upcoming finale, airing tonight in Australia, will officially wrap up the show’s three-season arc, which traced the love story of Lucy (played by Grace Van Patten) and Stephen (Jackson White) over the course of eight years.
Tell Me Lies — which is based on the 2018 novel of the same name — built a solid fanbase among bookworms and TV fans alike, so it’s understandable that news of the series finale left them “sobbing”.
“I’m fucking sobbing. I love this show, I didn’t think this season was gonna be the last one,” one X user wrote, while another gave Oppenheimer kudos “ending it exactly as intended”.

As for what we can expect in the last-ever episode, Oppenheimer teased last month that “some things are wrapped up” and said she “wanted to leave the fans really satisfied” with the conclusion.
Elsewhere, Oppenheimer told PEDESTRIAN.TV last month that she “pulled on people in my own life” when conceiving of characters, adding that she also drew inspiration from “one of the greatest shows of all time”, Vanderpump Rules.
We’ll have to wait and see how it all pans out when the finale drops in Australia at 7pm on Disney+, but even when the curtains are drawn, we’ll at least still have all those TikTok fan edits.
