Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan holds ‘Mahila Darbar’, offers free legal assistance

HYDERABAD: After more than a month of holding her first ‘Mahila Darbar, governor Tamilisai Soundararajan met a few petitioners as part of the programme on Monday.

Raj Bhavan invited 41 women seeking legal aid who were assured of free assistance by the governor.

According to the governor’s office, nearly 400 petitions were filed where some sought medical aid and others monetary assistance. Some women sought the governor’s help in resolving property issues too.

The governor also handed cheques to three women under her discretionary grants.

“Where we believed government departments could solve the problem, we forwarded such requests to them. We divided the petitions based on their severity. There are even NRI women who have approached us for assistance,” she said, adding that the ‘Mahila Darbar’ “is a platform for women to come to us with their problems”.

The governor was joined by National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma and other legal experts.
