Rangareddy: On credible information, the sleuths of Special Operations Team (SOT), LB Nagar Zone team along with Jawahar Nagar police busted a drug racket by apprehending two interstate drug peddlers from near the Malkaram village outskirts in Telangana's Rangareddy along with recovery of drugs worth Rs 45 lakh, Rachakonda Police said on Monday.
According to police, The police seized 40 kilograms of Poppy straw, 10 grams of MDMA and Rs 10,000 cash from them.
The arrested accused have been identified as Oma Ram alias Om Prakash (35), a resident of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, and Sanwala Ram (33), a resident of Jalore, Rajasthan. While another drug peddler, identified as Vikas alias Mukesh (32) is still on the run.
Officials said that the accused were apprehended following a tip-off near the Malkaram village outskirts in Rangareddy district on Sunday, July 21.
Three mobile phones and other incriminating materials were also recovered from their possession.
"The accused Oma and Sanwala Ram were eking their livelihood by doing carpenter & SS railing works. Due to financial problems, they decided to earn easy money by selling of narcotic drugs. A few months ago, they came in contact with one Vikas who is a drug supplier. Since then they started purchasing of poppy straw drug and MDMA through public transportation vehicles and selling it to needy customers in and around of Hyderabad City," they said.
"Efforts are afoot to apprehend the absconding accused. The main peddler and source are not available for examination. Efforts are afoot to identify the receivers in and around Hyderabad, apprehend the absconding accused, and also identify the consumers," officials added. (ANI)
