Teenager who 'forced baby alligator to drink beer' arrested on animal cruelty charges

A teenager was caught on a sickening video cruelly allegedly attempting to force a baby alligator to drink alcohol.

The lad has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after the incident was reported to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), who pressed charges for illegal handling and mistreatment of the reptile.

The incident took place in a car park where two teenage boys allegedly found the baby alligator and began handling it in a 'cruel manner.'

Despite being urged by another witness to stop their mistreatment of the animal, the boys continued.

Footage captured by a witness showed the alligator being held by its neck and dropped to the ground.

In another frame, an aluminium can of alcoholic iced tea was placed near the alligator's snout in an attempt to make it consume the beverage.

The witness, identified as Lexxus Thomas, recorded the video in Tampa, Florida, and shared it with the FWC.

Lexxus said: "They were throwing it around, force-feeding it Twisted Teas. Basically tormenting the little thing."

The FWC acknowledged the video and launched an investigation into the incident.

Major Rob Rowe of the FWC said: "The lack of respect and responsibility displayed towards this animal was disheartening."

He commended the FWC officer for swiftly identifying the individuals involved in the abusive and illegal behaviour.

"Our officer exhibited exceptional investigative skills and swiftly identified the individuals involved in this abusive and illegal behaviour.

"We are committed to preserving Florida's diverse wildlife, and this serves as a strong reminder of the consequences of such actions"

The FWC advises against handling alligators, regardless of their size, due to the inherent danger of their bites.
