A 17-year-old boy has faced a children's court charged with murder, two weeks after the stabbing death of a 16-year-old in Melbourne's north-west.
The boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, handed himself in to police last night.
Police had been investigating the death of Pasawm Lyhym, 16, who was fatally stabbed after a fight between two groups at Sunshine Place on May 18.
He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene. Two further teenagers were injured during the incident.
Police said the incident involved groups from different schools, and raised concerns about retaliatory violence in its wake.
This afternoon, the 17-year-old boy was flanked by two police officers while sitting in the court dock, as his parents watched proceedings from the front of the public gallery.
His defence lawyer said the boy's mother had received "credible threats" that had forced her to move out of her home, in the wake of Pasawm's death.
The boy was not required to enter a plea during the hearing, and his legal team made no application for bail.
He was remanded in custody will next face court on October 5.
Police have also interviewed a 17-year-old from Caroline Springs and an 18-year-old from Burnside, both of whom were released without charge pending further inquires.
