Most people will agree Christmas is not about getting presents, but it can still be disappointing if you don't receive the gift you've been dreaming of.
One teenager was left in an awkward spot after her father gifted his girlfriend the present she wanted. The teen had told her dad she'd love Revlon hair straighteners, and she was delighted to spy a Revlon box underneath their Christmas tree.
Unfortunately, the present was not intended for her, and her hopes came crashing down when her dad handed the box to his girlfriend when the family had gathered around together.
As a result, the teen was left wondering if she should confront her dad, who had teased her about not looking under the tree.
She felt 'led on' by her parent and crushed not to have received the gift she said she 'badly' needed. Sharing her upset in an anonymous post to Reddit, the 14-year-old author began by expressing her gratitude for her presents.
However, she added that she could not help but feel disappointed by the situation, as she'd wanted the present for months. Her dad's girlfriend had also asked for a gift from Revlon.
So, when the teen spotted a branded box under the family's tree she thought her dreams had come true. She reasoned her dad might be hiding one of the boxes, not wanting to ruin her surprise. In fact, he'd only purchased straighteners for his girlfriend. Still holding out hope, she wondered if she'd be gifted her straighteners later, but none arrived.
"I'm thankful for the things he got me I'm just kinda [sic] disappointed ig [sic] because i was really hoping for a revlon and he kinda [sic] led me on thinking it was for me like telling me to not look under the tree and when i did i saw the unpacked revlon and all of that I'm just kinda [sic] sad also because i was getting worked up for nothing," she wrote, before asking who was in the wrong.
Thankfully, the story had a somewhat happy ending. While the teen was initially unsure if she should share her concerns with her dad, not wanting to sound ungrateful, she later decided to talk to him - and he explained he had not meant to upset her.
"UPDATE: So I talked to my dad and he told me he was oblivious to how much I actually wanted it and I also read him some comments and the post and he told me that he thought that I only wanted it bc [because] his gf wanted it," her post concluded.
