A teenager accused of the stabbing murder of a young man at waterfront nightlife precinct has pleaded not guilty.

Noah Keogh, 20, died after an incident involving two groups of people in a car park at Salamanca in Hobart on the night of October 25.

A 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, briefly appeared in Hobart Magistrates Court via video link from custody on Wednesday.

He entered not guilty pleas to one count of murder and one count of wounding, and will next appear in court in January.

A 23-year-old man suffered non-life threatening injuries in the incident which police at the time described as isolated.

The alleged stabbing was potentially targeted and possibly linked to another incident involving a person from each group, police said.

The Salamanca area is a pub, bar and restaurant precinct popular with tourists, and also hosts markets every Saturday morning.
