A teenage boy has been charged with murder over the death of a 61-year-old man who died from head injuries in a suspected street attack 18 months ago.
Mehmood Shamshi was found seriously injured in Staines Road, in Hounslow, in the early hours of August 18, 2001, and died in hospital three days later.
A boy, 17, has now been charged with murder and was due to appear in court for the first time on Friday.
The teen, who cannot be identified due to his age, is accused of Mr Shamshi’s murder and was expected to appear at Uxbridge magistrates court.
In the aftermath of Mr Shamshi’s death, Metropolitan Police detectives said they believed he had sustained the fatal injuries in an “assault” in Staines Road, near the junction of Cromwell Road, at around 10.30pm on August 17.
"Mehmood’s family and friends have been left devastated by his death and we are working hard to work out the sequence of events that led to him sustaining injuries, which we believe ultimately led to his death", said Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin, who was leading the investigation.
The teenage boy’s case is expected to be sent to the Old Bailey for a preliminary hearing next week.
