A teenage boy has been arrested in connection with a gang assault in Temple Bar that left a man in a serious condition in hospital.
The assault occurred on Fownes Street Lower at around 9:50pm on Friday evening. The incident is believed to have begun in a fast food outlet in Temple Bar Square before moving to the Fownes Street areas between 9:30pm and 10:00pm.
Officers rushed to the scene following reports that a man was "being assaulted by a number of other men". The victim, who is in his 40's, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to St James’ Hospital.

A garda spokeswoman said: "Gardai in Pearse Street investigating the serious assault that occurred in Temple Bar, Dublin on Fownes Street Lower on the evening of Friday 19th August, 2022 arrested a juvenile aged in his teens. He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and has since been released pending referral to the Youth Diversion Programme in relation to this incident. Investigations are ongoing."
