Teenage boy, 15, collapses and dies in popular restaurant in front of family and friends

A teenage boy collapsed and died in front of horrified friends and family at a popular chain restaurant over the weekend.

Emergency services raced to Browns at the Liverpool ONE complex following reports a boy had collapsed.

Members of the public and staff reportedly tried to help the 15-year-old until emergency services arrived on Saturday afternoon.

The teen was rushed to hospital for treatment but sadly died, despite the best efforts of medical staff.

On Sunday, a white tent was visible in the outside dining area, which had been cordoned off.

Merseyside Police confirmed his death is not believed to be suspicious and his next of kin are being supported by specialist officers.

Hundreds of people took to social media to share tributes to the boy and their condolences to his family.

One person wrote: "His poor parents, my heart went out to them. My two grandchildren lit a candle in church for him this morning.

"I have to say I've been thinking of them all last night. May he rest in peace prayers thoughts to his family friends."

Another commented: "I witnessed this yesterday with my husband and children and couldn’t stop thinking of this boy and his poor family who was with him.

"So heart-breaking thinking of all his family at this sad time."

A third added: "Sending deepest condolences to this lovely boy's family and friends. Rest in peace. We understand your pain. Lots of love."

While a fourth said: "My thoughts go out to the young lad and his family, also anyone who was unfortunate to witness this terrible incident. Bless you all."

And another posted: "Absolutely awful news. Thinking of such a beautiful family at such a heart breaking time. All of our love is sent your way and you are in my thoughts constantly."

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "Emergency services were called to Browns Restaurant on Paradise Street at about 5.50pm following reports that a teenager, who was with family and friends, had collapsed.

"A number of members of the public and staff at the restaurant had provided medical assistance prior to the emergency services attending

"The teenager was taken to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital where sadly he died a short time later.

"The death is not believed to be suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the Coroner.

"Next of kin have been spoken to and specialist officers are supporting the family at this tragic time.

"Formal identification is still to take place."
