Teen slashes at Deliveroo cyclist with knife and 'punches him in face' after bike crash

The frightening moment a teenager slashed at a Deliveroo worker with a knife after a bike crash has been caught on camera.

Ludovic Mihalca, 24, said he was picking up an order when three other cyclists "jumped into the cycle lane from the pavement".

He claimed the teenagers punched him in the face after a row erupted when he collided with one of the bikes.

A video taken shortly afterwards shows the courier kicking one of the teens' bikes, before the youngster takes out the blade and lunges towards him.

Ludovic told the Mirror that he was left unharmed but shaken up by the incident in Southwark, south London, saying: "It's really disappointing."

Met Police officers were called to the street at around 9pm on July 3. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing, the force confirmed today.

Recalling the events leading up to the footage, Ludovic said: "[The teenagers] gave me five metres to brake while I was going at around 20mph. I couldn't avoid them and just pulled my brakes as hard as I could before crashing into one.

"I then asked 'what are you doing, why aren't you looking behind you?'. It could have been a car.

"They then started punching me and were very aggressive. I tried to call the police but they just hung up. I didn't even have time to get off my bike because I was getting hit in the face.

"I was saying 'stay here until the police come' and one started kicking my bike with his leg. Two of them left and I then kicked his bike back.

"He then tried to stab me. I didn't even see the knife as I was just thinking he's trying to punch me. I saw it after he tried to hit me with it. I didn't even expect a knife as he's just a kid."

He added: "I'm really scared because later that night one of them showed up around the same area and started asking me what the police were going to do. I was busy with an order at the time."

The delivery rider said it is the third incident involving his bicycle that he has reported to police in the past two months.

He continued: "I just want to be safe and for someone to pay for the damages to my bike. The wheel is spinning too much and the brakes don't work like before.

"I also lost my headphones when they punched me. I put them in to try and call the police but they took them out of my ear.

"Recently I was involved in a car accident where a driver bumped into me from the side, but the police couldn't investigate as there wasn't enough evidence. Then two weeks ago I had another bike which got stolen.

"It's really disappointing."

The Met said it was alerted to reports of an assault but the teenager had fled the scene by the time officers arrived.

In an earlier statement, the force said: "Police were called at 21:00hrs on Sunday, 3 July to Walworth Road SE17 following reports of an assault.

"A man is reported to have been cycling in the road when he became involved in a verbal altercation with a youth. A knife was then produced.

"The youth then made off. There were no reports of any serious injuries. No arrests; enquiries ongoing."

A Deliveroo spokesperson said: "We're really concerned by this video and are reaching out to try and identify the rider involved and make sure they're ok.

"Keeping riders safe is a priority for Deliveroo and our dedicated rider team is available to offer advice, support and to liaise with the relevant authorities if the rider chooses to report this incident."
