An illegal motorbike reportedly seen riding near a Canberra sports field has been seized by police.

About 4.30pm on Saturday, May 30, ACT Policing responded to reports of motorbikes being ridden in multiple suburbs in the Belconnen area, including the Holt playing fields.

Officers located two bikes and their riders at the back of the Melba shops.

Police say one rider fled the scene but the other was unable to start the bike.

Police spoke to the rider and identified him as a 16-year-old boy. His motorcycle was found to be unroadworthy and unregistered and was seized by the officers.

The boy did not hold a licence.

Investigations into the matter are continuing and charges may be laid, police said.

ACT Policing is urging anyone who witnessed or has dashcam footage of illegal motorcycle activity in Canberra suburbs to come forward. Anyone who can assist police should provide their contact details to Crime Stoppers via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
