Teen left alone in UK after parents die urgently trying to move to US to live with aunt

A teenage girl left alone in the UK after both her parents died is desperately trying to get permission to move to the US and live with her aunt.

Pramiti, who is 16, tragically lost her mum two years ago, when she was just 14, and her dad died after suffering a heart attack earlier this year.

She has been raised in the UK and with her aunt and uncle heard being named as her legal guardians, they set about bringing Pramiti to the US.

But tough immigration laws mean that it's proving difficult for her relatives to join her permanently in the UK.

Meanwhile, the US claims the relationship is not strong enough for her to join her family in Charlotte, in North Carolina.

In an online appeal for public support, the couple said that they had now met more than 30 immigration lawyers over the past three months.

The teenager is now just a few weeks into her 16th birthday, but the family is still no nearer to bringing the girl back to the US.

They thought they had found a loophole where she could get a student visa for two years and found the school to sponsor her.

However, in another twist the US consulate in the UK refused a visa on the grounds there was no obvious tie that would see her going back to the UK.

In order to look after her and continue her schooling, her uncle Kallikadavil said that his wife Sushila, a US resident, has moved to the UK and is staying with their niece in London, but she is only allowed to stay there for six months.

In a petition looking for signatures on change.org he said: "We have reached out to several political leaders across party lines (Thom Tilillis' office, who have been instrumental in providing us updates) and well as our local Council woman, Dimple Ajmera!

"We have been advised by their office to find a good immigration lawyer, but all the 30+ lawyers that we have spoken to have only stated we have no immigration option and the only possible option to pursue was denied by an immigration official at a consulate.

"All we want is for our family together and to have our young child get physical and emotional stability and a bright future she deserves.

"I pay well over 30 per cent of my income in taxes, neither are we looking for any benefits, nor are we looking for any state money.

"ALL WE NEED is the permission for our child to be with us until she is old enough. PLEASE HELP US!"
