Teen girls help police arrest man for 'sexually assaulting' a child

A man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a child with the help of two teenage girls.

Officers took a 26-year-old into custody for questioning after reports that a schoolgirl was sexually assaulted in Huyton. The arrest was made after two teens flagged down officers in distress on Bluebell Lane.

Police were approached by the two 15-year-olds on Tuesday, July 26, who said they'd been approached by a stranger. He asked their names and ages and sat down to talk to them.

In conversation, the victims say the suspect revealed partial information about himself which they were able to remember. When they left, one of the teens was assaulted by the man.

After the attack they found a police patrol and were able to recount information about the man to officers. Detectives were then quickly able to identify the suspect and make an arrest.

A spokesperson for Knowsley police said: "Our patrols were flagged down by two 15 year old females this evening on Bluebell Lane. They were distressed, and said that they had been approached by a male in Huyton Village who had asked their names and ages and sat down trying to talk to them. In conversation, the male revealed partial bits of information about himself that the girls were able to remember.

"As the females left, the male sexually assaulted one of them. They were able to get away and flag down our patrol, and through the information the quick thinking girls were able to remember about him, we were able to identify the offender.

"The male was on tag, so was quickly located and arrested for the offence. Enquiries are ongoing and he remains in custody at this time to be questioned over the incident.

"Incidents of this kind are abhorrent and will not be tolerated. We are grateful to the girls for flagging our officers down, they were taken safely home and we will continue to support them. We are here to help you and keep you safe. Please be vigilant, and if you ever feel in danger, please don't hesitate to approach any officer for assistance."
