Teen girl arrested after Glasgow soup kitchen allegedly vandalised

A teenage girl has been arrested after a Glasgow soup kitchen was allegedly vandalised.

PPE at Homeless Project Scotland 's facility in the city centre was left unusable following the incident - with the charity now £1,500 out of pocket.

Charity volunteers had been setting up the Argyle Street unit at around 7pm last night before the reported attack is said to have taken place.

Hungry service users had to wait on their feet for 45 minutes until volunteers gathered broken plastic from the ground and tables.

Chairman of the charity, Colin McInness, told the Record: "Our service users, who only want a hot meal, had to wait an extra 45 minutes for their dinners and had to wait in the queue.

"They would have been hungry, some probably hadn't eaten all day."

It is the second time in just five months that the charity's supplies have come under attack after a van used to transport food was trashed in October.

CCTV footage showed culprits climbing on top of the van on Argyle Street before they went on to jump up and down while on top of the vehicle.

Police confirmed a 16-year-old girl was arrested in connection with Tuesday's incident.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 7.15 pm on Tuesday, 22 March, 2022, police were called to a report of a disturbance and vandalism on Argyle Street under the Hielanman’s Umbrella, Glasgow.

“A 16-year old female was arrested in connection with the incident and is the subject of a report to the relevant agency.”

The charity has set up an online fundraiser in attempt to raise cash to replace the damaged screens, and donations can be made here.
