A young man left critically injured after a horror collision with a horse has woken up and been moved out of A&E following his mother's appeal.
Yesterday, The Star revealed how Kathy Lloyd from Castlerea was distraught to learn that her son Simon Edwards, who was left fighting for his life after the devastating road crash near Cahir, Tipperary on the M8, had “escaped” from A&E and walked the streets of Cork in a delirious state.
But following our article in which Kathy appealed for her son (19) to be moved from A&E after he was returned to hospital, the young man has now been transferred to a neurological ward in Cork University Hospital.

“He is now on a neurological ward at last.
“He's away from the emergency department, where he was not safe, evident in the fact he was able to walk onto the streets dazed and confused,” Kathy told this paper.
And in further good news, Kathy says her son, who was fighting for his life over the shocking collision with a stray horse last Saturday, is now awake and recovering further.
“At the moment Simon is now awake, able to still move.
“He is still battling brain contusion and will need treatment for his fractures around the eye area when please God his brain recovers enough.
“The most important takeaway is that Simon is finally on the neurological unit,” she said.
The development comes after the distraught mother told this paper yesterday that she learned of an alleged incident where her son woke up in a delirious state and managed to leave the hospital and wander the streets.
“He wandered around. He was absolutely naked. No shoes on, just a hospital gown, his bottom shown to the world.
“He was dazed and confused. He didn’t know where he was,” she told us.
The hospital has declined to comment on individual cases - and Kathy says her son was found on the street and returned to the hospital after the shocking incident.
But the horrified mother, who is a trained nurse, said she could not understand why her son was in A&E - and she had appealed for him to be moved to a neurological unit or critical care.
Kathy said what happened to her son was a freak accident, after a stray horse suddenly ran onto the motorway and collided with the car her son was in.
“He was travelling on the M8 between Junction 10and 11 with his friends. They were car sharing.
“His friends, when they got tired, Simon took over the driving and then vice versa.
“While they were on the road it was approaching midnight I believe, and a stray horse came straight out onto the motorway.
“The gardai told me that the horse was killed on impact,” she said.
When emergency services arrived, Simon, who is well known on popular social media app ‘TikTok’ as ‘@justrunnings’ was rushed to hospital, where he was announced as being in a critical condition.
“When the horse ploughed into this car it managed to peel back the roof of the car.
“When the emergency services came I was told that the fire brigade didn’t have to do much cutting of the roof because the horse had done a lot of damage,” Kathy explained.
