Teen brutally assaulted during youth football match

A teenager was assaulted during a youth football match.

Merseyside Police confirmed the force is looking into the assault after officers were called to the Rookery on Roe Lane in Southport on Saturday, January 14. Officers received reports around 10.30am of an assault on a 15-year-old boy by another boy after an altercation broke out between two teams.

The victim suffered a fractured eye socket, fractured nose and nerve damage as a result of the assault. The game was ended by the referee and an investigation is now underway.
