Teen boy arrested and charged after allegedly strangling 15-year-old girlfriend

A 16-year-old boy has been charged after he allegedly strangled his partner multiple times over the course of their relationship.

Police will allege the boy strangled his 15-year-old girlfriend on four occasions between June and July.

The incidents were reported to police shortly after midnight on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

Police arrested the boy at his home later the same morning.

He will face the ACT Children's Court on Monday, August 3.

The teen faces charges of four counts each of aggravated common assault and the standalone offence of choking, suffocating or strangling another person.

ACT Policing urged anyone experiencing family violence to contact police when safe to do so.
