Teen boy, 15, dies after he's electrocuted by power lines and flung 30 feet into river

A teenager has died after being electrocuted while playing on live power lines.

The boy, 15, was climbing on a line close to the Aurizon train bridge in the city of Gladstone in Australia's Queensland.

As the boy accidentally touched the line, the power pole is said to have exploded, sending him flying around 30ft to the creek below.

Paramedics rushed to reports of a person in the creek at around 12pm, according to the Queensland Ambulance Service.

Officers worked with staff from Aurizon - Australia's largest freight rail operator - to inspect the bridge.

Aurizon transports more than 250million tonnes of goods across the country annually.

It also runs one of the largest coal rail networks in the world, with 50 mines and three major ports in Queensland.

Gladstone, where the tragedy took place, is home to a number of mines and is the fourth-biggest terminal for coal exports in the world.

Cops said they are not treating the case as suspicious and that they are preparing a report for the coroner.

In December last year, it emerged that a man who almost died in a freak workplace electrical accident had to have both of his arms and legs amputated.

Elvis Sanabria, 48, had 14,000 volts of electricity pass through his body while at work two years ago, in an incident that claimed the lives of two of his colleagues.

In April 2020, the Venezuelan and his colleagues were doing work on a groundwater well when they accidentally made contact with a high-voltage wire.

While lucky to escape with his life, Elvis paid a huge price as he needed to have both of his legs and arms amputated following the accident, the Star reports.

In October, a 13-year-old girl died in Brazil after being electrocuted when she touched a faulty television set.

The schoolgirl had just gotten out of the shower when she received a massive electric shock after trying to adjust the set, which was live due to a problem with its wiring.

The teen, named as Lorranny Ravick Soares Rodrigu, died in in Timon, a Brazilian municipality in the north-eastern state of Maranhao.

Lorranny was reportedly at home alone when the tragic accident happened on Sunday October 9th.
