Enniskillen will play host to its first ever TedX event this year after a local mental wellbeing coach and author has moved to set up the showcase.
TedX Enniskillen will feature a group of 16 speakers who will deliver short talks on a variety of issues, from mental health to civil society.
Among the local speakers will be Fermanagh Trust director Lauri McCusker, who will deliver a talk about civil society at the Ardhowen Theatre.
The event takes place on 9 June at the Enniskillen theatre, and founder Emma Weaver says the speakers have been selected based on the expertise and ideas they have within their field.
“TedX is a locally organised event which will bring Ted Talks to Enniskillen,” Emma said.
“A Ted Talk is an idea worth sharing, the speakers that have been selected to come to do their talk have been selected because of the great ideas they have.
“The theme of the event is ‘Be the change’, so your idea could potentially be there for generations to come in terms of giving people life lessons.
“I did a TedX talk last year and to be part of the community is a great thing to bring to the local area of Enniskillen.
“It gives people from here the opportunity to stand on that famous red dot that is associated with Ted Talks.”
Emma added it was a great way to give local people a chance to make themselves known on an international stage.
“The people selected to do the talks are experts in their field, what they are talking about they know a lot about,” she added.
“Local man Lauri McCusker is talking about civil society and how communities working better together benefits everybody.
“We have a whole diverse range of people talking, local woman Sinead Welsh will be coming as well to talk about young people and their mental wellbeing.”
“It’s about bringing opportunity to Fermanagh and letting people know that we all have an idea worth sharing.”
