Ted Lasso - a fictional American coach hired to manage a British football team - has sent a message to Leeds United midfielder Brenden Aaronson ahead of the World Cup. Aaronson is set to play in his first major tournament for the USMNT of his career with the competition set to get under way in less than a weeks time.
The 22-year-old has been a regular for his country since his debut back in 2020, and has already been capped on 24 occasions, scoring twice. Aaronson's stock has continued to rise since his move to Leeds in the summer, where he reunited with fellow American Jesse Marsch after their time together at Red Bull Salzburg.
Marsch became just the third American to manage in the Premier League after his appointment at Elland Road in March, following in the footsteps of David Wagner and Bob Bradley. During his time in England, he has often been mocked and compared - unfairly - to the fictional character Lasso, who has lavished Aaronson in praise ahead of his World Cup bow via a message on a billboard.

He said: "Brenden, it makes sense that you were raised in Medford whose tagline is 'historic in nature,' cause that's how I'd describe the way you play the game. Heck, folks are even callin' you 'the American Boy.'
"I know how tough it can be as an American overseas, a cookie's a biscuit, chips are fries, pants are underpants and don't even get me started on 'fanny pack.' But what remains the same no matter what side of the pond you're on, is that you were barn [born] to be on the USMNT.
"You were barn to play in the games of all games. And you were barn to go all the way. This billboard's on a barn, right? Cause if not this joke isn't gonna make sense.
"Another American Boy, Ted Lasso."
