Ted Cruz’s teen daughter OK after self-inflicted stab wounds

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s family is requesting privacy after his teenage daughter was reportedly taken to the hospital with self-inflicted stab wounds.

Police were called to the Republican senator’s Houston home Tuesday night, following reports of a 14-year-old with wounds on their arms, according to ABC affiliate KTRK.

Authorities did not tell the outlet whether the incident was related to one of Cruz’s two daughters, aged 14 and 11.

Spokespeople for Cruz, who lives with wife Heidi and their two children in the city’s River Oaks neighborhood, confirmed to KTRK that the incident is regarded as a family matter.

“Thankfully, their daughter is okay,” his office said in a statement to the outlet, as well as multiple others.

“There were no serious injuries,” the office continued. “The family requests the media respect their daughter’s privacy at this time.”

It is unknown who contacted authorities and whether Cruz and his wife were home when the incident transpired.

Tuesday’s incident isn’t the first of its kind for the political family.

During Cruz’s 2016 presidential bid, his wife opened up about an incident in 2005 when, after having quit her White House gig and relocated to a finance job in “unfamiliar” Texas, she was found by authorities near an expressway and thought to be “a danger to herself,” The New York Times reported.

Cruz’s Houston office did not immediately return the Daily News’ request for comment.
