Techland isn’t making Dying Light 3 just yet, but they want to make sure fans know they’re thinking about another horror game sequel. Dying Light franchise director Tymon Smetkala tweeted a poll asking fans who they’d like to see as the theoretical protagonist of a hypothetical Dying Light 3, with the caveat that it doesn’t mean production is imminent.
“DISCLAIMER: This is not Dying Light 3 announcement :) But – we were chatting today overseeing last details for the Gut Feeling update (3 days to go!), and we couldn’t agree…so please help: if we do DL3, would you be most excited if the main hero was (as a “profession”)” Smetkala said on Twitter.
The poll included:
- Just a survivor
- Nightrunner
- Pilgrim
- GRE Agent (turned good)
GRE Agent turned good won with 42 percent of the votes, followed by survivor with 33 percent. Pilgrim only received four percent, likely because Dying Light 2’s protagonist was one.
It might just be theoretical, but it raises some interesting possibilities about the series’ future. The GRE agency has always been a nefarious, almost comic-book-evil organization that evil scientists, incompetent officials, and corrupt chancers called home.
The prospect of a story that delves further into the faction and its effects on people in a post-infection world sounds intriguing, not least for its promise of more character depth. Dying Light 2’s factions were all different shades of horrible, so something less two-dimensional would be very welcome.
Meanwhile, Dying Light 2’s Gut Feeling update releases April 20, 2023, with a new event, transmog, and more in store.
