
Regulators clean up AI-modified videos
China’s National Radio and Television Administration said Wednesday it had cracked down on unauthorized artificial intelligence-modified videos. Following a one-month campaign launched in January, platforms removed more than 23,000 non-compliant videos and penalized over 100 accounts. The broader, ongoing effort — targeting altered content involving classic TV dramas, historical and revolutionary themes, and heroic figures — had removed nearly 29,000 videos as of March 31.
Alibaba forms AI technical committee
Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. has created a new group-level technology committee focused on AI and named a new chief technology officer for its cloud computing unit. CEO Eddie Wu announced the reshuffle on Wednesday, taking the helm of the new committee while tapping Li Feifei to lead cloud technology and AI infrastructure. The sweeping reorganization underscores the Chinese tech giant’s urgent drive to streamline its AI operations and consolidate leadership in an increasingly fierce global race to commercialize foundation models.
‘Ne Zha 2’ global box office surpasses ‘Titanic’
Chinese animated film “Ne Zha 2” has overtaken “Titanic” to become the fourth highest-grossing movie in global cinematic history, according to ticketing platform Maoyan. The film, which continued its theatrical run in select overseas markets after ending its domestic release on June 30, 2025, reached $2.267 billion in global box office, edging past the $2.264 billion earned by “Titanic.” The top three spots are held by “Avatar,” “Avengers: Endgame” and “Avatar: The Way of Water,” with the Chinese film trailing the third spot by $53 million.
Sanan Optoelectronics general manager investigated
The general manager of Chinese LED giant Sanan Optoelectronics Co. Ltd. (600703.SH) has been placed under investigation by anti-graft authorities, just weeks after a similar probe targeted the company’s founder. The concurrent investigations, coupled with the freezing of the controlling family’s entire 29.5% stake, threaten to upend control of one of China’s largest LED chipmakers.
Tencent launches AI browser tool
Tencent Holdings Ltd. launched an AI tool named QBotClaw for its QQ Browser on Wednesday. The feature lets users tap into major domestic AI models to complete complex tasks using simple text prompts. The Mac version is already available, with a Windows rollout to follow.
