After a lengthy wait, Team USA's Figure Skating squad is set to receive the gold medal in the Team Figure Skating event from the 2022 Winter Olympics. The announcement comes as a result of a doping scandal that has plagued the sport for the past two years.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland recently ruled that 17-year-old Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva was guilty of an anti-doping violation. Valieva had tested positive for a heart medication that has the potential to enhance endurance. She maintained that she had inadvertently ingested the drug. Nevertheless, the CAS handed her a four-year ban, backdated to December 2021, when the sample was collected.
