Teachers in Chandigarh govt colleges await seventh pay-scale

CHANDIGARH: Despite implementation of Central service rules in Chandigarh in March, teachers in various government colleges across the Tricity are still waiting for benefits of the UGC’s 7th pay commission. They have sent several representations to the UT advisor and home secretary raising the issue and saying that government teachers of Chandigarh are the only ones among employees who are still to get revised pay scales.

Dr Purnendu Ranjan, associate professor, Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42 said, “We have sent several representations to UT authorities even after application of Central service rules for all UT employees from April 1, 2022. For us, non implementation of the 7th pay scale has been the most glaring issue of discrimination and deprivation of our revised scale due since January 2016, whereas all other UT employees have already got it during the last two to three years.”

The teachers said they were unable to understand why they were being denied the 7th pay UGC scales and subjected to financial hardships despite clear instructions for its immediate implementation in the home ministry's gazette notification of March 29. Despite many attempts, director, higher education Amandeep Singh Bhatti was unavailable for comments.
