Teachers fired after forcing special ed student, 7, to eat his own vomit

Two teachers at an elementary school were fired for the disturbing act of making a kid eat his own vomit during lunch, after he got sick.

The seven-year-old special education student at Brown Elementary School in Brownsburg, Indianapolis, was reportedly told that if he vomited, he would have to eat whatever he threw up.

After he did indeed vomit, the school staff reportedly gave him a spoon and made him eat some of it, according to the police.

The two women identified as teacher Sara Seymour, 27 and instructional aide Debra Kanipe, 63, stood at each side of the child while they forced him to do this appalling thing, police said.

Following the incident, both Seymour and Kanipe were fired and charged with neglect of a dependent, a level 6 felony, as well as failure to report it.

Three more school staff members who were present at the scene were also charged with failure to report it.

The staffers charged with failure to report were identified as teacher Julie Taylor, 48; instructional aide Kristen Mitchell, 38; and behavioural technician Megan King, 24.

The boy ate some of the vomit, then used paper towels to clean up what remained, police said.

The alleged incident occurred in February.

The Brownsburg Community School Corp. said it learned of the incident on April 12 and removed the five staffers from contact with students and placed them on administrative leave.

Superintendent Jim Snapp said in a statement: "We are deeply saddened by the actions of these staff members and will work in conjunction with our local law enforcement as they move forward with possible criminal charges."
