Teachers across Scotland will walk out today in their first national strike over pay and conditions for almost 40 years.
Members of the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) will join picket lines after they refused a new deal put forward earlier this week.
Schools across the country will close as a result of the industrial action after education secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville warned the union that a 10 per cent pay rise was "unaffordable".
