A teacher at a school where an evil gunman murdered 19 children and two adults was left traumatised after police wrongly said she left a door open, allowing the killer to enter.
Emilia Marin has been subjected to sickening abuse after the incorrect claim, made by authorities following the massacre at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
It took police several days to correct their statement and confirm that Ms Marin had closed the door to the building when she saw 18-year-old Salvador Rolando Ramos approaching.
Tragically, the door had not locked as it should, investigators revealed.
Ms Marin's attorney, Don Flanary, said that she has required neurological treatment as a result of the atrocity and the trauma of being wrongly blamed.
He told CNN she "can't stop shaking", adding: "It's traumatic for her when it's insinuated that she's involved. She's heartbroken."
Mr Flanary described the blame as "the most horrific thing anyone could have endured".
She had seen a car crash into a ditch outside the school, the attorney said, she propped the door open when she called 911.
But when she saw Ramos approaching with a gun ahead of the May 24 massacre she slammed the door shut.
Mr Flanary told NBC News : “She is not well psychologically. She is a wreck.
“She’s been to her doctor and she’s continuing to receive treatment.
"It’s going to be a long road ahead, as it is for so many other people.”
Travis Considine, chief communications officer for the Texas Department of Public Safety, later confirmed to reporters: "She came back out while on her phone, she heard someone yell, 'He has a gun!,' she saw him jump the fence and that he had a gun, so she ran back inside,' removing the rock when she did.
"We did verify she closed the door. The door did not lock.
"We know that much and now investigators are looking into why it did not lock."
