A teacher has revealed the meaning behind a number of secret codes used in schools to discuss children - including one often spotted on homework. TikTok star Miss Frankie, @missfrankie1, said sometimes teachers wrote 'EBI' on homework and she has explained what it really means.
She said acronyms were commonly used to help teachers communicate with each other. KCSIE, WWW and EBI are just a few of the multitude of codes used. In Miss Frankie's video, she speaks to her friend Zoe to see if she can guess what they mean. She captioned the video: "Seeing if my friend knows teacher terminology."
In the clip - which has been liked more than 100,000 times - she said: "Okay, I'm a primary school teacher and Zoe's a midwife. So I'm going to ask her what some of these acronyms mean that I use in work." You can get more story updates straight to your inbox by subscribing to our newsletters here.
She began with the term LO, which means learning objectives, then she moved on to PP/FSM, and she explained this meant 'pupil premium' and 'free school meals', The Mirror reports. "If I honour a child's work when I'm marking it, I will put an EBI and a WWW," she said. Miss Frankie explained that EBI stood for 'even better if' and WWW stood for 'what went well'.
She then revealed the meaning behind WT, WA, and GD. The creator continued: "So WT means 'working towards'. WA means 'working at an expected level' and GD means 'greater depth'."
The last code is KCSIE, which she explained meant keeping children safe in education'. She added: "It's the safeguarding framework that we have to use. So in safeguarding training, we have to use the KCSIE."
