TDP's Babu, Ramakrishna, Vijay file nominations for Rajya Sabha polls

Amaravati: Three TDP Rajya Sabha candidates -- Sana Satish Babu, Bashyam Ramakrishna and Chintakayala Vijay -- on Monday filed their nominations for the forthcoming biennial election of the Council of States.

The trio submitted their nomination papers to Returning Officer Vanitha Rani in the Assembly, an official release said.

"Sana Satish Babu, Bashyam Ramakrishna and Chintakayala Vijay filed their nominations as Telugu Desam Party Rajya Sabha candidates," it said.

Recently, Lingamaneni Ramesh also filed his nomination as a Jana Sena candidate for the Rajya Sabha.

The ruling NDA in Andhra Pradesh has decided that the Telugu Desam Party will contest three of the four upcoming Rajya Sabha seats in the state, while its ally Jana Sena will contest the remaining seat.

The retiring members of the Council of States from the southern state include A Ayodhya Rami Reddy, Parimal Nathwani, P Subhash Chandra Bose, and S Satish Babu.

However, Babu filed his nomination for another tenure on Monday.

Reddy, Nathwani and Bose belong to the YSRCP.

Currently, the YSRCP has seven Rajya Sabha seats, followed by the TDP with two seats. These numbers are expected to change after the June 18 election.

In the Assembly, the TDP has 135 seats, followed by Jana Sena with 21 and the BJP with eight, while the YSRCP has only 11 seats.
