Taylor Swift takes legal action against cursive logo

Taylor Swift pulling an excited face on the red carpet.

Pop royalty Taylor Swift is no stranger to the odd legal kerfuffle, whether it's reclaiming her music or protecting her legendary brand. In her most recent design dispute, Miss Swift has beckoned the US government to stop an unexpected rival. No, it's not a record label or a dodgy merch retailer, but a humble bedding brand.

Alleging that Cathay Home's "Swift Home" brand is too similar to her signature, Miss Swift has attempted to counter the bedding brand's recent trademark request. While the result of this legal action is yet to be settled, it adds yet another dispute to the over 300 trademark filings from T Swift's legal team.

In the official trademark opposition filing, the singer's legal team claim that the cursive wordmark of 'Swift Homes' replicates the swooping script of Miss Swift's signature. Alleging that the design may "falsely suggest a connection" between the bedding company and the pop singer, leveraging her "sufficient fame and reputation."

The filing goes on to claim that Cathay Home is capitalising on the "substantial goodwill and recognition" of the singer's brand. It highlights that Swift's trademarked signature already appears on various merchandise items, from bedding to apparel and that the bedding brand may "seriously injure and diminish the reputation or value" that Swift has built through her brand.

Ultimately, Swift's legal team is asking for Cathay Home's 'Swift Homes' trademark to be blocked by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
