Taylor Swift had somewhere else to be on Emmy night. Instead of walking the red carpet in Los Angeles, the singer was in Kansas City, where she cheered on husband Travis Kelce as the Kansas City Chiefs opened their 2026 NFL season against the Denver Broncos.
Swift arrived at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday, September 14, wearing a red-and-cream gingham polo dress from Guest in Residence, the fashion label founded by Gigi Hadid. The choice put her in the Chiefs' familiar red color palette as she settled into a suite to watch Kelce and his team take on Denver.
The Chiefs ultimately opened the season with a 31-10 victory over the Broncos, giving Swift plenty to cheer about as she watched from the stands.
Taylor Swift Brings a Checked Look to Arrowhead
Swift's game-day outfit was a Guest in Residence gingham polo dress in red and cream, according to Page Six. She paired the dress with a delicate bracelet, keeping the rest of the look relatively understated for an evening centered on football.
The dress was a fitting choice for a Chiefs game without being conventional team apparel. Rather than a jersey or sweatshirt, Swift wore a checked polo-style dress that incorporated the team's most recognizable color into an everyday fashion look.
Inside the suite, Swift was photographed alongside Tom Cruise, who was also attending the game. The two were seen chatting during the matchup as they watched the Chiefs take on the Broncos.
The appearance continued Swift's long-running association with Chiefs game days, but this outing came with a notable difference: it was her first time watching Kelce play since the couple married earlier this year.
Her First Chiefs Game Since Marrying Travis Kelce
Swift and Kelce married on July 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Her return to Arrowhead therefore marked a new chapter in the familiar routine of seeing Swift support Kelce from the Chiefs' suite.
Swift's presence at Chiefs games first became a regular part of her public appearances in 2023, after Kelce attended her Eras Tour concert at Arrowhead Stadium. She later began attending his games, including appearances during the Chiefs' playoff runs.

This time, however, she was back at the stadium as Kelce's wife and for the beginning of the Chiefs' 2026 campaign.
The timing also made her absence from the Emmys particularly notable. Swift had been connected to the ceremony through a prerecorded appearance, but she was not in Los Angeles for the live event.
Why Taylor Swift Wasn't at the Emmys
While viewers saw Swift during a prerecorded segment involving Emmy host Mariska Hargitay and the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit cast, she was not physically at the awards ceremony.
Instead, Swift was in Kansas City for the Chiefs' season opener. Vogue reported on her whereabouts during the Emmys, while AP also confirmed that she attended the game to support Kelce.
Her decision to be at Arrowhead meant that Swift's Monday night unfolded very differently from the typical Emmy evening. Rather than joining Hollywood's awards-season crowd, she watched football from the Chiefs' suite, dressed in red and cream and alongside Cruise.
And by the end of the night, the Chiefs had delivered the result she came to see. Kansas City defeated Denver 31-10, giving Kelce and the Chiefs a winning start to the 2026 NFL season.
For Swift, it was also a return to one of the most familiar settings associated with her relationship with Kelce, this time with the added distinction of being her first Chiefs game since their wedding.
