Matty Healy has "served his purpose" to superstar Taylor Swift according to PR experts who believe she has "got her rebound out of the way."
The 33-year-old star only broke up with her long-term partner of six years, Joe Alwyn, in April before she was rumoured to have moved on with The 1975 frontman.
The fling appears to have been short-lived, with sources claiming that the couple are no more following a string of nights out together.
"Taylor and Matty broke up," a source announced earlier this week. "They are both extremely busy and realised they're not really compatible with each other.
"Taylor's friends want what's best for her and aren't shocked that their relationship fizzled out since she recently got out of a long-term relationship," the source told Entertainment Tonight.
From a PR perspective, the end of Matty and Taylor's relationship has come at the "right public relations moment," as his controversial past has come to light.
Matt Yanofsky, PR expert and The Moment Lab founder, told the Mirror: "It’s impossible to know exactly why it happened, but from a PR perspective he served his purpose.
"He was the connection she needed (until he wasn't), he’s allowed her to get her rebound out of the way after a long relationship and now with his past coming to light, it's the right public relations moment to split."
Matty's list of controversies led Taylor's horrified fanbase to pen an impassioned open letter to Taylor urging her to address the remarks.
"At the end of the day the Taylor Swift brand must rise above all and without being able to say for certain, I’d assume every public move she makes is meticulously planned by a team of professionals," Matt adds.
"Taylor must and will always do what's best for Taylor... that's how you become and maintain being one of the biggest music superstars on the planet!”
