Taylor Swift fans 'have never heard her sound so sad' as she 'tears up' at The Eras Tour

Taylor Swift fans "have never heard her sound so sad" after an emotional performance of False God at her sold-out American leg of The Eras Tour.

Performing at the MetLife stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Saturday night (May 27), Taylor surprised fans with a hit from her album Lover.

The American singer, 33, sat at her piano in a green dress as she crooned the much-loved - and incredibly sultry song - to thousands of adoring fans.

But the song, which is usually upbeat, sexy and full of loved-up references, sounded a little downcast to some, with them taking to social media to share their thoughts.

A few fans spotted how Taylor didn't introduce the song before singing it - something she usually does - with one claiming that she didn't say a "single word".

One fan even pointed out how Taylor sounded "so sad", while others spotted her getting visibly emotional towards the end of the song.

In a TikTok video uploaded shortly after Taylor surprised fans with the 2019 hit, Taylor can be seen sitting at her piano as she sings False God.

Over-the-top of the video someone penned: "Taylor was so emotional and teared up when she ended False God."

Commenting on the post, one person wrote: "I've never heard her sound so sad."

"This hurts my heart. I just want her to be happy. Even if she's moving on for the better, the songs will no doubt sting," added a second.

A third person then wrote: "I don't think they [Taylor and Joe] are over. I think this is her telling him... begging him to see her."

While another added: "The song doesn't sound it, but you can see the pain in her eyes."

Others however said she was just "feeling" the song, with someone else claiming they saw her smile at the end.

Someone on Twitter addressed the emotional performance when they wrote: "I was there she was kinda crying for most of the show tbh. Started during Champagne Problems. But yes false god felt particularly, melancholy."

False God is a song from the 2019 Lover album - which was thought to be penned as Taylor and her ex Joe Alwyn fell in love - although this has never been confirmed.

Some of the lyrics of False God are: "We were stupid to jump / In the ocean separating us / Remember how I'd fly to you?" which could touch on how Taylor would fly to England to see Joe.

In the song she also talks about "worshipping" their love and "patching up" their relationship after a quarrel.

This comes just days after Taylor dropped an unreleased track on an exclusive CD available on night one of her MetLife gigs.

You're Losing Me is a heartbreaking song about a relationship breaking down, with fans convinced the song is about her ex Joe Alwyn - who she split from earlier this year, according to reports.
