Taylor Swift has addressed speculation that she is engaged to her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, on her new song Lavender Haze.

The 32-year-old released her new album Midnights to much critical acclaim and now fans have gone wild as the Shake It Off hitmaker sings about her six-year relationship with the British actor.

Leaning into the speculation, Swift acknowledged the long-running rumours that they are secretly engaged in her track in the second verse and pre-chorus.

She sings: “All they keep asking me is if I’m gonna be your bride. The only kinda girl they see is a one-night or a wife.

“I find it dizzying they’re bringing up my history but you weren’t even listening."

In the chorus, Swift’s lyrics then allude to the engagement speculation and the expectation of marriage is outdated.

“I feel the lavender haze creepin’ up on me. Surreal, I’m damned if I do give a damn what people say. No deal," the star belts.

“The 1950s s**t they want from me, I just wanna stay in that lavender haze."

Aside from her new album, Swift previously revealed the meaning behind the song. She first explained that she learnt the phrase, “lavender haze” while watching TV show Mad Men and discovered it meant an “all-encompassing love glow".

Discussing the meaning, the Grammy winner said: “Like my relationship for six years: we’ve had to dodge weird rumours, tabloid stuff, and we just ignore it.

“So, this song is about ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff."

The star’s latest album, Midnights, dropped at midnight on October 21 (Taylor Swift)

The much-acclaimed artist released her 10th studio album at midnight on Friday and then surprised fans three hours later by dropping Midnights (3am Edition), which features an additional seven songs.

Since its release, fans have taken to Twitter to declare their love for the album, which is written about 13 sleepless nights across her life, and continues to be in the top 10 trending topics globally.

One quipped: “The exciting thing about a new Taylor Swift album is not only new music but a new personality to annoy all my friends and family with.”

“Let me tell you… midnights is an amazing listen first thing in the morning,” another declared.

A third penned: “Midnights is amazing because Taylor is writing about whatever she wants and doing it in whatever genre she feels like”.
