Taylor-Rae Hamilton on building a following of 100k online, her pet monkeys and dealing with trolls and death threats

A Northern Ireland woman who shot to fame in the world of social media has hit out over trolls who have issued her death threats.

Taylor-Rae Hamilton, from Ballymena, has a following of over 100,000 over her Facebook and TikTok accounts which promote positivity.

The 29-year-old, who says she wants to use her platform to promote realness and everyday life, has been forced to go down the legal route after a stream of hateful comments online.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Taylor-Rae, who now lives in Coleraine, explained how her pet monkeys, Winston and Willow, are in high demand on her feed.

She said: "I started focusing on social media one year ago and it has gotten crazy.

"I never really took it that serious until I noticed how big it was becoming and I do enjoy it so much. The first couple of videos were make-up related videos to break me into what it would be like to go live on Facebook.

"That give me something to talk about and then I ditched the make-up very quickly and my account became more about real life and the reality of being a woman in this day and age.

"I found that this attracted more people, I had opened up my home and my relationship to them. John and I are unique in that we have a big age gap in our relationship and we have pet monkeys.

"We are always at something and to some people, we are very interesting. I want to show people that there is a reality behind social media. John has taken to it like a duck to water and he would support through anything at all.

"The pair of us just work. We are so compatible and people love to see us together - they all call him big J."

Taylor-Rae said along with the happiness that her social media presence has brought her, she has dealt with dark days too.

She says she's been told to "die from breast cancer" and that someone said they "hoped her monkey clawed her face".

"With social media, I like to think that people can see me as their friend - even though we have never met," she added.

"It is nice to know that somebody is there and I want to be that friend for people. I have just had a lot of trolling online, and have actually had to contact the police over some of the comments, they have been horrible.

"We have Winston and Willow - our two monkeys. I had been on a waiting list for a marmoset monkey for three years before I had Winston.

"Now I had done all the research - it was thought out. Monkeys are 24/7 work, it's not like having a pet dog or rabbit at home.

"It is like having children and I out that effort in. They are very well looked after and online, people love them.

"We've had backlash but we really do take care of them so much, and give them all the love in the world."
