Taylor Heinicke ‘a little heartbroken’ to leave Washington

Taylor Heinicke loves the Washington Commanders. He loves the fans, his teammates, the DMV and the organization. However, earlier this week, Heinicke departed Washington, signing a two-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons.

On Thursday, Heinicke met with Falcons’ reporters on a Zoom call and reflected on his decision to leave Washington. Heinicke admitted he was all set to return to the Commanders, but his hometown Falcons simply made a better offer.

“There are a lot of great memories there,” Heinicke said of Washington. “They gave me my second chance at football, and there’s a lot of special people there. I’m going from one home to another, so it’s a pretty easy process, but I’d be lying to you not to say I was a little heartbroken to leave those people up there.”

From Heinicke’s Instagram post expressing gratitude to Washington, it’s clear he has strong feelings for the organization he left behind. Heinicke spoke of his decision to leave Washington for Atlanta, noting that he weighed the Falcons’ offer, considering he was from the Atlanta area and his nephew, sister and mother could come to see him play.

In response to Heinicke leaving, the Commanders signed Jacoby Brissett.

Many Washington fans will remember Heinicke fondly, and it’s clear he feels the same way.
