Taylor Hawkins mourned by music world as peers pay tribute to Foo Fighters drummer

Tributes have poured in after the untimely death of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.

The musician was just 50 when he was found dead in his hotel room, according to local reports, ahead of the band's performance at a music festival in Bogota, Colombia.

His tragic passing was announced by the band on Twitter, who wrote: "The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins.

"His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.

"Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time."

Following the devastating news, Taylor's peers in the music industry spoke of the legacy he's left behind.

Liam Gallagher posted: "Absolutely devastated to hear the sad news about Taylor Hawkins my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends RIP brother LG x"

Rock band Kasabian tweeted: "RIP Taylor, such sad news. He was an absolute beast behind the kit and a lovely man. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and band X"

Reading and Leeds Festival's official account tweeted: "RIP Taylor Hawkins [yellow heart emoji] Your infectious energy and amazing stage presence will forever be missed"

You Me At Six wrote: "Rest easy legend. Thinking of all who love you. RIP Taylor. One of a kind x"

Libertines posted: "RIP Taylor, our thoughts are with his family and friends at this incredibly sad time"

Nickelback's official Twitter account shared a statement that read: "In utter disbelief at the news of Taylor Hawkins . Our deepest condolences to his family, his bandmates, his team, his friends and everyone that was ever touched by the music he created with @foofighters @Alanis and so many others. This is so incredibly sad."

Promoters Live Nation posted: "We lost one of rock music’s greatest drummers. Our hearts go out to his family, the band, and fans around the world as we all mourn this heartbreaking loss. RIP Foo Fighters' Taylor Hawkins ."

Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy wrote: "In absolute shock & disbelief over the the passing of Taylor Hawkins . I’ve always had so much admiration for him. Amazing drummer & a gem of a guy who was always fun to be around. I’m absolutely gutted…my deepest condolences to his bandmates & family".

Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker shared: "I don’t have the words. Sad to write this or to never see you again. I’ll never forget Laguna Beach days when I was a trash man playing in a punk rock band and you were playing with Alanis. You’d come watch me play in dive bars and be like, “kid you’re a star”.

"And I thought you were crazy but you gave me so much hope and determination. Years later we toured together with Blink and Foo’s in Australia and I have the best memories of smoking cigarettes in the restroom of flights we were on together and watching your set every night. To say I’ll miss you my friend isn’t enough. Till the next time we talk drums and smoke in the boys room … Rest In Peace"

Glee star Finneas O'Connell, known for writing songs with his sister Billie Eilish, penned: "So heartbroken to hear about Taylor Hawkins ’ passing, what an incredible talent, who didn’t also need to be so kind and generous and cool but was all those things too anyway. The world was so lucky to have his gifts for the time that it did, Rest In Peace".

Kiss star Paul Stanley tweeted: "Speechless and Gutted. Taylor was a great guy, a dad and a husband. My heart goes out to them, Dave and the band. What awful news."

Fellow star Gene Simmons wrote: "Our prayers and condolences go out to the Hawkins family, ⁦@foofighters⁩ friends and fans. Sad."

Miley Cyrus, who was part of the lineup alongside Foo Fighters at the Estereo Picnic festival, said she would dedicate her Saturday show to him.

"My favorite memory of Taylor is dancing round the drum kit while he played this song…" she posted on her Instagram story, with a picture of Pretenders song Brass In Pocket.

Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello wrote: "God bless you Taylor Hawkins. I loved your spirit and your unstoppable rock power. Rest In Peace my friend."

Former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr also expressed his condolences, writing: "God bless Taylor. Peace and love to all his family and the band peace and love."

Ozzy Osbourne said: "@TaylorHawkins was truly a great person and an amazing musician. My heart, my love and my condolences go out to his wife, his children, his family, his band and his fans. See you on the other side – Ozzy."

Billy Idol posted: "So tragic. Rest in peace Taylor."

Rock band The Smashing Pumpkins tweeted: "Taylor Hawkins 1972-2022. Our deepest sympathies to Taylor’s family, his fans, and of course his band."

The Offspring penned: "Shocked and saddened to hear of the loss of one of rock’s greatest drummers. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Taylor Hawkins tonight."
