Taylor Hawkins fans left in tears after son Shane performs My Hero at tribute concert

Fans of the late Foo Fighter s drummer Taylor Hawkins were left in tears on Saturday night when his young son performed during an emotional rendition of the band's track 'My Hero' at a concert held in memory of the musician.

Shane Hawkins, 16, joined Dave Grohl on stage to play drums on the track at Taylor's memorial concert in London.

Hawkins senior, who previously drummed for Alanis Morissette, passed away suddenly in Colombia in March aged 50. Authorities in the South American country later announced that a preliminary urine toxicology test indicated he had ten substances in his system at his time of death, including opioids and cannabis.

Other acts to perform on the night included Liam Gallagher, Paul McCartney, Queen, Supergrass and The Pretenders.

Drummers Travis Barker and Roger Taylor were some of the big names to fill Hawkins boots on the night, but it was teenager Shane who stole the show with his spellbinding performance at the end.

Ahead of his appearance Grohl told the sold-out crowd: "Ladies and gentlemen, we have one more drummer that’s going to come up and play with us and let me tell you I don’t think I've ever seen anyone hit the drums as hard as this person, but beyond that, he's a member of our family."

He continued: "And he needs to be here tonight with all of us, and I think it makes sense that he's going to come up and play with us tonight.

"Ladies and gentlemen, would you please welcome Mr Shane Hawkins on the drums."

Countless fans took to social media afterwards, meanwhile, to complement youngster on his breath-taking performance.

"He was absolutely incredible. Had tears streaming while watching him play. So much love," said one fan on Twitter.

Another wrote: "This was easily the most emotional performance in a night filled with emotional performances. I'm still recovering."

A third added: "I have no words for this on so many levels. The poor kid for one thing, enduring the kind of grief that he is. But so very talented, and the whole world is proud of him right now."

A fourth declared: "I think Dave has found his drummer... and how fitting. This kid is simply amazing and will slide right in whenever the time is right for him and the band. His dad must be so proud looking down."

And a fifth enthused: "Shane Hawkins is 16 years old, and gave the most incredible performance on drums of "My Hero" at his own Dad’s tribute concert at Wembley. How on Earth did he hold it together? Surely one of the most poignant moments in rock history."
