The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Taylor Frankie Paul will not face new criminal charges after prosecutors declined to move forward on a pair of domestic violence cases involving her ex‑boyfriend Dakota Mortensen.
In an update issued on April 14 (local time), the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office said multiple attorneys had reviewed cases referred by the Draper City Police Department and West Jordan Police Department before deciding not to file charges.
According to letters sent to both agencies, several alleged incidents took place more than two years ago and fall outside Utah’s statute of limitations, while more recent allegations did not have enough specific detail or corroborating evidence to meet the threshold of proving a case beyond reasonable doubt.
Officials also confirmed the new investigations will not affect Paul’s existing probation, which stems from a 2023 case involving Mortensen.

Earlier this year, Draper police opened a domestic assault investigation after a friend of Mortensen’s called to report he had “been the victim of a domestic violence assault by an ex‑girlfriend at her Draper residence”, and Mortensen later described two alleged incidents involving “grabbing, scratching, shoving, and striking”, with officers photographing scratches on his neck.
Police have said that allegations were made “in both directions”, and West Jordan police separately confirmed an active domestic violence case after Mortensen came forward with a video believed to show an incident from 2024.
The decision from the district attorney comes after weeks of intense scrutiny of Paul’s private life, including the leak of video from the 2023 altercation that showed her yelling, putting Mortensen in a headlock and throwing chairs while a child could be heard crying in the background.
Paul previously pleaded guilty in abeyance to aggravated assault in that matter, with other charges dropped, and remains on probation as a result.
Away from the criminal process, the pair are also locked in a family‑court battle. Mortensen has sought a protective order, and Paul has filed her own petition alleging a pattern of abusive conduct and coercive control, with both sides accusing the other of violent behaviour. A judge has temporarily granted Mortensen custody of their 2‑year‑old son Ever, while Paul has been given supervised visitation as the court weighs their competing applications.
Paul’s wider TV career has also been caught up in the fallout, with ABC cancelling her already‑filmed season of The Bachelorette just days before it was due to air and The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives has paused filming of season five indefinitely.
