Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor said his side still ‘have work to do’ to match Chelsea’s standard ahead of the FA Women's Continental Tyres League Cup final next month.
City set up a clash with Chelsea on Thursday night after a comfortable 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the Academy Stadium.
City were 2-0 up inside half an hour thanks to two goals in quick succession from Jess Park and Bunny Shaw, before Lauren Hemp wrapped things up by heading home Park’s 70th-minute cross.
Taylor was impressed with his team’s performance but admitted that they will have to raise their game against Emma Hayes’ all-conquering Chelsea side. The two also meet in the league on Sunday.
“It’s a brilliant feeling to get through to the final,” he said.
“It took us 10 minutes or so to get going, but once we’d got into our stride we played really well throughout.
“Both ourselves and Chelsea deserve to be in the final.
“It’ll be a top-level game when it comes around, but as it stands at the moment I think we’ve still got a bit to do to catch them and where they are.
“We’ve got them on Sunday in the league, though, and we’ll go there with confidence now.
“We’ll look forward to the cup final of course, but there’s a lot of football to be played before that.”
The victory means City are not only in a major final, but that they remain unbeaten in all competitions since November 14.
Taylor, 48, was also full of praise for Park who produced a dominant performance, involved in all three of the goals.
He added: “We scored some good goals too, and I was delighted for Jess Park.
“For her to score one and create the other two was a special performance.
“Arguably we could have scored more goals, but we’re in the final again now and it is a trophy and a competition we really value.”
