Gardai in Naas have arrested and charged a taxi man for dangerous driving after they were caught far over the speed limit on the M4.
The Naas Roads Policing Unit were carrying out standard speed checks on the main road in north Kildare when they detected the driver going 56km/h over the limit.
The road has a maximum allowed speed of 120km/h, meaning the driver was doing 176km/h.

The driver was stopped immediately, arrested and has since been charged.
A garda spokesperson confirmed the incident on social media writing: “Naas Roads Policing Unit were conducting speedcehcks on the M4 in North Kildare recently when they detected this
Taxi travelling at a speed of 176kph in a 120kph area on a wet & greasy road surface.
“They were stopped & the driver was arrested & charged with Dangerous Driving.”
In Ireland, driving in excess of the speed limit will result in a fixed-charge fine of €80 for speeding offences.
You will also automatically receive 3 penalty points on your driving licence and you have 28 days in which to pay your fixed-charge fine from the date the notice issues.
However, if you are convicted of dangerous driving, you could be fined up to €5000, or be sent to prison for up to 6 months, or both.
If you are convicted of dangerous driving causing death or serious bodily harm, you could be fined up to €20,000 and imprisoned for up to 10 years, or both.
