Taskmaster's new VR game promises bizarre comedy challenges

Taskmaster, the UK comedy series, is about to get its very own VR game.

The hugely popular Channel 4 series, which its producers say is known for its quirky challenges and hilarious panellists, will go virtual in 2024.

In partnership with Scallywag Arcade, fans of the show will be able to get involved in its comedy chaos just by putting on their VR helmets.

Taskmaster VR will transport players to the Taskmaster house, where they will face a series of entertaining challenges, each with their own comedy flair.

To ensure no detail goes unmissed, Greg Davies and Alex Horne, the show's presenters, will also use their voices in the VR world.

Davies said he was thrilled about the new VR game. In true comedic fashion, he said he liked the idea that this meant less work for him: "The team have done an incredible job and the game is a really exciting addition to the Taskmaster world. On a personal note, the creation of a virtual reality Taskmaster takes me ever closer to my ultimate goal of working without even leaving my sofa."

Horne agreed that the initiative was a wonderful chance for Taskmaster fans to get more involved in the programme.

“Genuinely, this is extraordinary, brilliant and very fun," he said.

"Also, I've always wanted to be a contestant on Taskmaster so this is great for me as a VR user, except that I will also have my virtual self watching my attempts and undermining my confidence so I may well regret the whole venture after I've had a go."

So, what can players expect from the game? Well, it looks like tasks such as organising rubber ducks and smashing watermelons might be on the cards.

Taskmaster VR is expected to launch at some point in early 2024 on Meta Quest and Steam VR.

Head of Games at Scallywag Arcade, Niall Taylor said: "The world of Taskmaster is perfect for VR.

"Combining the hilarity of the show with the freedom of virtual reality gives players an immersive — and slightly mad — experience."

Taskmaster has graced our TV screens for more than eight years, first launching on Dave in 2015. It later moved to Channel 4, where the show has firmly cemented itself as a comedy classic according to its fans.
