Taskmaster Greg Davies has angrily proclaimed, “I have direct royal lineage,” after comedian Bridget Christie accused him of not being related to Welsh king Owain Gwynedd. In the penultimate episode of Series 13 of the hit series Taskmaster, Davies and his assistant “little Alex Horne”, set celebrities the task of getting the “most surprising thing delivered to the Taskmaster house”. They are given six hours and a £50 note. Naturally, Christie ‘summons’ the historic Welsh King.
Davies’ affiliation with Owain Gwynedd was discovered during a 2017 episode of Who Do You Think You Are? The comedian, well-known for his role as Mr Gilbert in The Inbetweeners, discovered that he had ‘royal blood’ through a relation with the First Prince of Wales - Owain Gwynedd. Davies’ dreams, however, are short-lived when he realises that almost everyone in the town of Criccieth claims to also be a descendent.
As the mysterious figure (a man dressed as a king) appears outside the Taskmaster house, Alex Horne comments that “he looks like a Welsh king.” He reads out a note that is reportedly from ‘the King’ that says: “I am King Owain Gwynedd. Word has reached the castle that you claim to be a direct descendant of me. You are not! Who do you think you are?”

In response, comedian Bridget (who has orchestrated the scenario) told Alex: “G got in touch with me because he was very annoyed that Greg was going around saying that he was a direct descendant.”
Aside from the royal garb, the 'king' holds a record of ‘Hit Me With Your Rhythm stick’ because apparently, that’s the “first record that Greg ever bought”. The king also wears a kaftan and a swimming cap in reference to the Taskmaster’s passion for swimming.
Back in the studio, Davies argues: “I am related to Owain Gwynedd - the first Prince of Wales. I am. But you said I wasn’t.” Bridget, meanwhile says that there are conflicting views but adamant of his “royal lineage”, Davies refutes the comments.
Despite appearing offended by the comedian’s remarks, Davies describes Bridget’s research as “very creepy but very thorough” and he therefore, awards her four points, where she is beaten only by Chris Ramsey.
Taskmaster airs at Channel 4 on Thursday, June 9 at 9pm
