Tasmanian police seize $400k MDMA batch

Tasmanian police have seized about $400,000 worth of MDMA pills and charged a Hobart man over the discovery.

Benjamin Shield, 47, was arrested by officers after a search allegedly yielded more than 11,000 MDMA pills and a "significant quantity" of drug manufacturing equipment.

Shield was charged with trafficking a controlled substance, manufacturing a controlled drug and possessing a controlled plant or its products.

He was also charged with destroying property and possessing something used to administer a controlled drug.

Shield appeared in Hobart Magistrates Court on Thursday and was remanded in custody.

He will next face court on January 6.
