Welsh actor Taron Egerton, best known for playing Elton John in Rocketman, is hoping for "a shot" to play the famous Marvel role of Wolverine. Previously the iconic character has been played by Hugh Jackman, who last played the character in 2017.
Taron told The New York Times he would like "a shot" at the role. He said: "I'd be excited but I'd be apprehensive as well because Hugh is so associated with the role that I'd wonder if it'd be very difficult for someone else to do it."
"Hopefully if it does come around they'll give me a shot."
It is also believed that Taron met with Marvel executives and company president Kevin Feige to discuss taking on the role. In 2019 Taron won a Golden Globe for his performance of Elton John in Rocketman and he has been nominated for a Grammy Award and two BAFTAs.
Taron shot to fame as "Eggsy" in the Kingsman films, the first of which Kingsman: The Secret Service was released in 2014 and the second Kingsman: The Golden Circle in 2017. The 32-year-old can speak fluent Welsh and he spent his childhood in Anglesey and Aberystwyth.
The Hollywood star has recently had to quit his role in a West End play due to "personal reasons". The 32-year-old actor had been performing in a revival of Mike Bartlett’s 2009 play Cock at London’s Ambassadors Theatre - where he was starring alongside Bridgeton's Jonathan Bailey.
