Target shopper finds a discounted Mario backpack for $13.99. Then she scans it and becomes the victim of dynamic pricing: ‘I’m incredibly mad’

A Target shopper named Patrice shared a detailed account on TikTok about finding a Mario backpack set for her son during a school supplies trip. The set included a lunchbox and water bottle. Unlike nearby JanSport backpacks that displayed clear price tags on the wall or items, she said this one had none. Patrice said she decided to check the price herself at a store kiosk by scanning the barcode.

In her video, she described feeling happy when the kiosk showed a discounted price of $13.99 in red lettering, and the time was about 4:55 p.m. She said she placed the backpack in her cart and continued shopping, noting she now had extra money to spend because of the lower cost. In her video, Patrice stated, “I’m incredibly mad about it and I gotta tell you about it,” as she recounted the events that followed.
