Leo Varadkar has been slammed as "out of touch" over a hype video that highlights his first day in office during his second term as Taoiseach.
The social media package, which the Fine Gael leader shared on sites such as Instagram and Twitter, begins with a solemn visit to the Garden of Remembrance before heading to Government buildings. Upbeat music then kicks in as it shows the moment he was reinstated as the leader of the country with the video captioned: "On Saturday, I hit the ground running as Taoiseach. Here’s a look behind the scenes of that day."
He can be heard giving his speech, saying "we have to give everyone the best start in life, empowering them to make the most of that start". Footage of meetings with TDs as he handed out Cabinet positions and stock imagery of success also play during the video package.

But many were not impressed by the "Peaky Blinders" showing with some calling the Taoiseach "out of touch" with the reality for many. Issues such as the homeless crisis and cost of living squeeze were brought up in response to the video.
One commenter said: "Tone deaf and utterly lacking the humility you reference in this nauseating self-serving promo. Perhaps the Irish people will demand more of this gov than they did of the last one."
While another added: "I don’t want to be negative. But this is very future focused. Why isn’t he mentioning the housing crisis or the cost of living."
But not all comments came with criticism with many wishing him the best of luck during his second term as Taoiseach. One person said to the doubters: "Why are ye following if you don’t like what you see? Congrats and good luck."
And a second said: "Congrats Mr Varadkar - Leo! You did a fine job last time and I have no doubt you will surpass that this time around. Great video! Wishing you a very Happy Christmas."
